Overview of Christianity
Spiritual Growth
Therefore, your relationship with God only functions when you are in fellowship. Your relationship with God is disconnected and does not function when you are out of fellowship.
Your spiritual growth functions only when you are in fellowship. Your prayers are only heard when you are in fellowship, anything dealing with the spiritual life, functions only when you are in fellowship.
Salvation does not end your sinning, but confession does give you a means to correct and restore your spiritual life back into a functioning mode.
So, you need salvation in order to have a relationship with God, and then you need confession in order to maintain a functional spiritual life.
Then comes spiritual growth, the next mandated aspect of your spiritual life.
Knowing the details of history or the outlines of historical events is not enough. Believing in Christ, though it is extremely important, to is not enough.
God brought you into this world not to just exist, not to just be saved, but to be completed.
You were born an empty vessel and God has prepared a way for you to be completely filled up and finished.
And your spiritual growth begins and completes that process.
First, you obviously have to be saved - salvation.
Second you have to live inside a functioning spiritual life - fellowship by means of confession.
And third you have to learn doctrine.
Bible doctrine is the spiritual food nourishment of the soul.
You eat daily in order to maintain your physical body and if you skip meals, then you pay the health price for that skipping. If you go days or weeks or months without food, then you get sick, diseased, and die.
It is the same with the spiritual life. No food means no spiritual health, no growth, and an eventual spiritual disaster for your life.
Therefore, a daily study of Bible doctrine is mandated, not only by God, but by common sense. Who had to teach you to eat regular meals, or maintain some sort of regular and healthy diet? Probably your momma, but then common sense enters into your eating habits and decisions too.
So nobody should have to tell you that a daily spiritual diet is necessary, however God does tell us all through the scriptures.
Also, just as you have had to learn in life, through teachers in school, from parents at home, off the street from life's experiences and so forth, so too, you must be taught, at least initially, by a Bible instructor. Again, common sense.
You cannot know what you do not learn, and you cannot learn what you are not taught.
